3. Fetal position: Determining the fetal position of a baby may be challenging.
Many natural mothers find belly mapping to be an invaluable tool for bonding with baby, being acutely aware of baby's position, and taking actions to correct the baby's position if necessary. With an anterior placenta, it may be difficult to determine the precise location of the baby, since the placenta cushions any frontal movements.
The placenta develops wherever the fertilized egg implants into the uterus of a woman. During the mother's 20-week ultrasound, the baby may be in one of four positions: anterior placenta, posterior, fundal, or left or right lateral. Normally, placentas attach to the rear wall of the uterus, but an anterior placenta indicates that the baby takes a back seat to the placenta, which means that the placenta is attached to the uterus's front wall. Essentially, if a relative or the woman's husband approaches the woman's belly and begins speaking to the baby, the individual is not speaking to the infant.
