Currently owned by Volkswagen AG, Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. was created in 1909 in Molsheim, Alsace, Germany by Ettore Bugatti under the name Automobiles Ettore Bugatti. After Ettore Bugatti's death in 1947 and his son Jean Bugatti's death in 1939, the brand suffered until 1963, when it was acquired for its aviation parts business. The brand was bought by an Italian entrepreneur in the 1990s, who resurrected the firm and resumed production of luxury sports vehicles. Volkswagen acquired the Bugatti brand in 1998, and the following year formed Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. Bugatti is most known for its unique high-end supercars, but the company has a long history of stunning design and several racing triumphs. In the 1990s, the EB110 was introduced, but it failed to thrill the market, with the new Bugatti languishing in comparison to its competitors. Volkswagen's acquisition of Bugatti has proved to be very beneficial for the brand, with a renewed sense of identity and confidence reestablishing Bugatti as a world-renowned automobile manufacturer.
