Deserts Map Of The World

The Earth does not spin on its axis completely. It oscillates in very precise cycles. The Precession of the Equinoxes is one such cycle that takes 23,000 years to complete. At the cycle's midpoints - 11,500-year intervals - enormous forces are exerted on the planet, causing the wobble to rise. I liken it to an out-of-balance washing machine during the spin cycle. Eventually, it starts to tremble. This imbalance will result in a lithosphere shift – a pole shift. I do not see Earth collapsing into space as a consequence of this; rather, I envision the lithosphere sliding over the core and other Earth layers. From the vantage point of someone standing on Earth and gazing upward, the Sun seems to travel fast across the sky, covering around 90 degrees. In actuality, the crust as a whole would have slid across the magma layers on which it floats. Once the shift occurs, a new North Pole will be constructed at around 110 degrees East longitude and 45 degrees North latitude - approximately in the vicinity of Mongolia's current location. The Gobi Desert is shown on this map.

The Gobi Desert is the world's sixth biggest desert. It is 0.5 million square miles in size and spans portions of Mongolia and China (1.3 million sq. km). Its topography is mostly composed of boulders and compacted soil, which has made it an important trading route throughout history. As with other conventional semiarid deserts, the Gobi suffers very hot summers and freezing winters. Additionally, it is referred to as a rain shadow desert due to the Himalayas' ability to block off any wet weather.

Winter darkness, cold, and ice – these are just a few of the adjectives that have been used to define the Antarctic continent. However, did you realize that you may include desert on that list? That is correct because Antarctica receives insufficient precipitation to be classified as anything other than a desert. It receives very little snow, and what it does get never melts and freezes to ice. There is no vegetation present save for moss and algae. In terms of wildlife, you're likely to witness whales, seals, and, of course, penguins. Polar Regions | Andreas Kambanis/Flickr

This inverted universe is an unusual planet. It has more than double the land area of our own planet. Which does not imply twice as many people may live there, since only a tiny portion of this area is covered in greenery. After all, rain has to originate someplace. Pacifica, in particular, is a vast desert that is nearly entirely encircled by towering mountain ranges. Excellent for lovers of bleak stony landscapes, of which I am one. However, it is unsuitable for agriculture.

What Exactly Is a Desert? A desert is a landscape or area with extremely low precipitation - often less than 250 millimeters per year (about ten inches). Deserts cover around 1/3 of the Earth's land area. Deserts are classified into four distinct kinds depending on their geographic location: There are four types of deserts: polar deserts, subtropical deserts, cold winter deserts, and cool coastal deserts. Deserts exist on all of the Earth's continents, as seen on the map above.

In certain deserts, plants have specialized leaves that help them collect sunlight for photosynthesis, the process through which plants generate food. Carbon dioxide is taken in by little holes in the leaves called stomata. They also produce water vapor when they open. All of these stomata would rapidly dehydrate a plant in the desert. As a result, desert plants often have very small, waxy leaves. Cactuses lack all leaves. Their green stalks provide food. Certain desert plants, such as cactuses, have shallow root systems that extend widely. Plants rapidly absorb water and store it in their cells. Saguaro cactuses, which are found in Arizona and northern Mexico's Sonoran Desert, expand like accordions to retain water in their trunks and branches' cells. A mature saguaro is a living water reservoir capable of storing hundreds of liters of water.

The Arabian Desert, situated in Western Asia, is incredibly enormous in size. With a total size of 2,330,000 square kilometers, the desert is the world's fourth biggest and most deadly. The climate is peculiar in this area. At night, temperatures may drop from scorching to frosty. To be honest, even plastic items will deteriorate as a result of huge weather suspensions. It's interesting to notice that certain species can survive in these harsh environments. To mention a few, the spiny-tailed lizard, sand cats, and oryx all thrive in this area. There have even been reports of encountering quicksand. There have been cases of caravans and persons being entirely stranded owing to the predicament of quicksand. 3. Desert of Karakum

"Because the absolute number of farmers in these [at-risk rural] regions is so large, even simple and inexpensive interventions can have regional consequences," the authors of the World Atlas of Desertification write, noting that over 80% of the world's farms are managed by individual households, primarily in Africa and Asia. "Smallholders are now seen as a necessary component of the solution to land degradation, rather than as the primary cause, as was the case in the past."
