Story Formula One has its beginnings in the European Grand Prix Motor Racing competitions of the 1920s and 1930s. In 1946, after World War II, a new formula was agreed upon, which included a new set of regulations that would apply to all competitors' automobiles. That year saw the first non-championship races. The regulations for a world championship were drafted before to the war but were not finalized until 1947. The inaugural world championship race was contested in the United Kingdom at Silverstone in 1950, followed by the constructors' championship in 1958. National championships were conducted in South Africa and the United Kingdom throughout the 1960s and 1970s, with non-championship Formula One races continuing until the last race in 1983.
