Union Station Washington Dc Exterior

I believe that the only thing that counts with a travel hub, such as a train/bus station or airport, is how simple it is to enter and exit with the least amount of confusion possible. Union Station is a dream up to that point. The signage is rather simple, and getting from your train to the Metro or outdoors is quite simple. The one disadvantage is that the Amtrak area is quite congested. There are a limited number of seats, and even standing space is restricted. There is a lovely entrance/grand hall that is spacious and attractive, but there are no seats there (unless you are dining at one of the restaurants).

The United States is often referred to be a cultural melting pot, and the architecture of its capital city, Washington, D.C., reflects this. The District's most famous structures blend elements from ancient Egypt, classical Greece and Rome, medieval Europe, and nineteenth-century France. Aldo Altamirano / Moment / Getty Images photograph of the White House (cropped) Although the White House is the beautiful palace in which America's president resides, it had modest origins. James Hoban, an Irish-born architect, may have fashioned the first edifice after Dublin's Leinster House, a Georgian-style manor. The White House, constructed of Aquia sandstone and painted white, was more austere when it was initially erected between 1792 and 1800. Hoban reconstructed the White House after the British notoriously set it on fire in 1814, and architect Benjamin Henry Latrobe added the porticoes in 1824. The White House was changed into a neoclassical mansion as a result of Latrobe's restorations.

East Hall

The East Hall retains much of its original character, with modest shop booths selling out of glass display cases, and will be kept in the future, although with the possibility of a hotel conversion, it may be reused as part of that project. Off the East Hall was formerly a basic womenâs waiting room (now the Thunder Grill), in stark contrast to the elaborate menâs lounge off the main hall (now Shake Shack). Within the Columbus Club Lounge, off the East Hall, there was previously a lunch counter for individuals unable to purchase a sit-down dinner. Since then, a mezzanine on the second level has been constructed, although future restorations may restore the area to its original form.

The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) has made available for public comment a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS). OP has analyzed this document and found numerous essential areas for improvement prior to finalizing the project design. These issues are expressed in the Director's Statement. The following sections provide information on the Project's purpose, the OP's involvement in the project, detailed project details, and participation opportunities.
