[edit] Plot Following a humiliating failure in the Grand Prix Final and previous competitive defeats, 23-year-old Japanese figure skater Yuri Katsuki gets confused thoughts about skating and decides to return to his birthplace of Hasetsu in Kyushu. Yuri pays a visit to his childhood buddy Yuko at an ice rink (Ice Castle Hasetsu) and flawlessly imitates his hero, Russian figure skating champion Victor Nikiforov. Victor is intrigued when covertly recorded film of Yuri's performance is released on the internet, and he rushes to Kyushu with an offer to teach Yuri and resurrect his figure-skating career. [d] Victor was already acquainted with Yuri, having met him at a dinner when Yuri became inebriated and begged Victor to be his coach. [e]
