One of the RSD-exclusive limited edition releases this year is a 7-inch picture disc featuring a-legendary ha's '80s smash 'Take On Me.' As a result, We Got The Beats is hosting a âha-off. †Visit the shop any day between now and RSD and audition by singing a section of âTake On Meâ (don't forget the high note!). A video of your audition will be broadcast online, and three finalists will be chosen by public voting. Each finalist will get an automatic copy of the limited RSD a-ha album and will be placed into the finals, which will take place on April 18 at 6 p.m. at the shop. At the finals, each singer or band will perform a portion of the song, either the original or a new interpretation, and the winner will be determined by audience applause. The winner will then immediately record their version onto a 7-inch record in the store, with everyone else in the room appearing on the record as âthe audience.â The winner receives the original record, and a replica will be manufactured for display in the shop.
Black Country, New Road return today with the announcement that their sophomore album, âAnts From Up There,â will be released on Ninja Tune on February 4th. Sister Ray, Soho's Berwick Street
Sister Ray has weathered the storm of tangible music, surviving the bloodbath that decimated so many other record stores on Berwick Street and its environs ; if they had perished in the same manner as Vinyl Junkies, Koobla, Ambient Soho, and the others, it would have been a horrific tragedy. It remains a fixture on the same Soho street, although in new digs across the street. The emphasis is on high-quality vinyl, including new releases, pre-owned treasures, and rarities (they're frequent participants in Record Store Day), as well as some CDs.
